ROB THOMAS - SCOTCHMAN’S HILL AT SPRAY FARM – SAT FEB 6

ROB THOMAS FOR NEXT ‘A DAY ON THE GREEN’
SCOTCHMAN’S HILL AT SPRAY FARM – SAT FEBRUARY 6 2010

There’s no doubt Australia has embraced Rob Thomas, both as the front man of Matchbox 20 and as a solo artist in his own right.

Due to overwhelming demand, three new shows have been added to his 2010 Australian ‘Cradlesong’ tour including ‘a day on the green’ at Scotchmans Hill at Spray Farm on Saturday February 6 2010.

The special guest support artists will be powerhouse chart-topper Vanessa Amorosi, rockers Thirsty Merc and the up-and-coming Rushcutter, promising another sensational day of great music.

This will be the fourth ‘a day on the green’ to be held at the magnificent Bellarine Peninsula property, following capacity crowds for the Pete Murray, Lionel Richie and most recently the Joe Cocker/Jimmy Barnes concert in 2008. And with Rob Thomas headlining this great line-up, it may well be the best one yet!

With ‘Cradlesong’, Rob has continued his reign as one of the most played artists on Australian radio. After 4 months the album still sits in the ARIA Top 30 after peaking at #3 and is approaching double platinum sales. ‘Cradlesong’ has already produced two massive hit singles ‘Someday’ and ‘Her Diamonds’, which was the Most Played song on Australian radio for four consecutive weeks. The album’s third single ‘Give Me The Meltdown’ has just been released and is sure to be a smash hit over the summer months.

The acclaimed front man is a prolific songwriter who has contributed to the sales of over 80 million albums worldwide to date - as lead singer/songwriter with Matchbox Twenty, as an award-winning collaborator with the likes of Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, Bernie Taupin and Carlos Santana, and most recently as a solo artist.

His 2005 solo debut ‘Something To Be’ hit #1 here and in the US and spawned the worldwide smash hits ‘Lonely No More’, ‘This Is How A Heart Breaks’ and ‘Ever The Same’ on its way to multi-platinum sales.

The Grammy Award winner also has his name on an impressive number of US #1 smash hits including ‘Push’, ‘3AM’, ‘If You're Gone’, ‘Bent’, ‘How Far We've Come’ and the Carlos Santana hit ‘Smooth’.

As the front man of Matchbox Twenty and a solo artist, Rob has toured Australia six times, most recently in 2008, with total ticket sales now well in excess of 350,000 nationally. He commenced the current ‘Cradlesong’ tour in late September and has been winning rave reviews across America. Carlos Santana made a special appearance during the encore of a show in San Jose, California in late October and the pair joined for stirring renditions of ‘Smooth’, ‘Ain't No Sunshine’ and ‘Voodoo Child’. A week later in Atlanta, the members of Matchbox 20 made a surprise appearance on stage, performing ‘Bright Lights’ and ‘Disease’ to an ecstatic crowd.

The tour’s special guest will be one of the great voices of Australian music, Vanessa Amorosi. Vanessa is lighting up the charts with her brilliant single ‘This Is Who I Am’ which debuted at # 1. Her new album ‘Hazardous’ was released last week (Nov 6) and will consolidate her place as one of our most popular and successful female vocalists. Her powerhouse voice ensures her live performances are always memorable and of course, expect the hits we all love ‘Perfect’, ‘Absolutely Everybody’ and ‘Shine’ amongst many others.

Since first bursting onto the national scene back in 2003, hundreds of live shows and a swag of great songs have propelled Sydney-based THIRSTY MERC to national popularity. Their first two albums ‘Thirsty Merc’ (2004) and ‘Slideshows’ (2007) have produced hits like ‘Emancipate Myself’, ‘Someday, Someday’ and ’20 Good Reasons’. Led by the mighty vocals of charismatic Rai Thistlethwayte, the band is currently working on their third album which will be released early next year. In the great tradition of Aussie pub bands, THIRSTY MERC are road warriors and love nothing better than being on stage.

Up-and-coming four-piece Melbourne rock band RUSHCUTTER will open the concert. Fronted by Jaime Robbie Reyne, the band have been quietly gaining experience over the past year and working on their craft, whilst building up a solid live following. Their debut EP ‘Call High Water’ is just out, and with Reyne’s instantly recognisable vocals, RUSHCUTTER are tipped for big things.
