146 shows, eight years, more than 800,000 happy patrons and many, many amazing concerts later, Roundhouse Entertainment and Liberation Records are proud to present the triple CD "A Day On The Green : The Vintage Years 2001 - 2008".
One disc just wasn't enough to adequately represent the history of what has become one of the country's premier outdoor concert events, nor to showcase the staggering list of Australian and international artists that have contributed to its incredible success.
This fine three-CD set released on October 18, features songs from 56 of the wonderful and diverse artists who have graced the 'a day on the green' stages around Australia since the very first concert on January 26 2001.
It's a musical feast divided into three discs: STRIPPED BACK includes Paul Kelly & the Messengers, Mark Seymour, Diesel, The Church, Ian Moss, The Black Sorrows and Ross Wilson; NEW BLEND includes Missy Higgins, The John Butler Trio, Josh Pyke, Mia Dyson, The Waifs, Kasey Chambers and Thirsty Merc; VINTAGE includes Lionel Richie, The Pretenders, Bryan Adams, Joe Cocker, World Party, George Benson and Jimmy Barnes.
For the trivia buffs amongst us, the CD also includes tracks from artists who have performed at more 'a day on the green' concerts than any, other being Pete Murray (15 events), Richard Clapton (15) and Renee Geyer (12).
The concept for 'a day on the green' came from Michael and Anthea Newton of Melbourne's Roundhouse Entertainment. The idea was simple - as good things often are - good food and wine shared with friends whilst enjoying great music in a picturesque outdoor environment. With 16 carefully selected wineries and outdoor locations nationally, 'a day on the green' has presented many of the world's finest acts, but has also provided a valuable outlet for domestic artists to perform to large crowds on a regular basis.
"The Vintage Years 2001-2008" is a tribute to our first eight years. All up the 56 tracks showcase a swag of fantastic, compelling, diverse, entertaining and memorable songs designed to represent what audiences have enjoyed at 'a day on the green' concerts so far.
